Eater readers have been asking us for an update on Little Italy's Roma Market, the specialty Italian grocery store that we first announced last year. It's still under construction at Beech and Columbia, where it will span 9,000-square-feet of ground floor space in a corner office building.
First founded in Pasadena, the market expanded to Escondido in 2014 and the company reportedly has plans to open more locations in the San Diego area. The Little Italy outpost will sell imported Italian products plus grocery staples, beer, wine and spirits and include sections for fresh produce, seafood, meat and prepared food, ranging from scratch-made pasta to sausages and sauce. There will also be a cafe with an outdoor patio, fueled by a bakery and pizza oven. A rep for the market says the opening will likely be in late July or early August.
