Burnside just soft reopened in Normal Heights, where the eatery now has nearly double the seating capacity and re-emphasized craft beer program, with more taps and bigger bottle list.

The restaurant, which also delivers food to drinkers at Sycamore Den, has a revamped menu, with holdover favorites like the Cubano sandwich and Den Burger sharing space with new dishes from barbecue champ Todd Johnson of the Bay Area's Kinder's BBQ chain and Gator's Back Porch BBQ catering, ranging from brown sugar, pineapple and coconut marinated-baby back ribs to Southern-style barbecued shrimp Louie salad and grass fed ti-tip sandwiches. Johnson is house-making all of his barbecue sauces and smoking the meats — including turkey, ribs, tri-tip and more — in his commercial Southern Pride smoker.
