The Heart & Trotter's First Anniversary, Char House Saigon Grill Opens

NORTH PARK— A very happy birthday to The Heart & Trotter, which is celebrating its first anniversary. The progressive butcher shop, which also serves sandwiches Thursday through Saturday, offers a variety of smoked meat Sunday and pours craft beer and wine, will be hosting a party on Sunday, April 17 starting at 1 p.m. that will feature a first-come, first-serve pork taco buffet and a selection of beers from Amplified Ale Works. KEARNY MESA— Another new entry in Kearny Mesa is Char House Saigon Grill & Pho, which just opened at 7767 Balboa Avenue. Operated by the owners of Hillcrest's Pho Fifth Avenue, Char House's menu spans the gamut of Vietnamese specialities from noodle soup, vermicelli rice bowls and banh mi to char-grilled skewers of meat, seafood and vegetables. LITTLE ITALY— Ironside Fish & Oyster executive chef Jason McLeod is headed to New York City's legendary James Beard House to cook a Baja seafood-centric dinner paired with cocktail from Polite Provisions' drink dynamo Erick Castro.
