Cafe 21 Owners Shutter Zymology 21 in the Gaslamp

After a year and a half in operation

Zymology 21

In 2014, Cafe 21 owners Alex and Leyla Javadov moved the Gaslamp branch of their popular eatery just a few steps north into Croce's former corner at 5th and F. That summer, the Javadov's opened Zymology 21 in their original space at 750 5th Avenue, which served an all day brunch-style menu and a cocktail program based on boozy popsicles and drinks made with fruity shrubs, served in test tube "flights" for a science-y spin.

Now, the tipline tells us that the restaurant's last day of service was Sunday, with the shutter announced via Facebook. A source says that the owners will be giving up the space, but that they may potentially reintroduce the Zymology 21 concept somewhere else in the future.
