BANKERS HILL— BANKERS HILL Bar + Restaurant co-proprietor and executive chef Carl Schroeder has announced that longtime chef de cuisine Ted Smith has moved on from his position at the 4th Avenue restaurant. Smith, who previously worked at sister restaurant MARKET Restaurant + Bar, has been replaced by Tyler Nollenberger, who has been cooking alongside Schroeder in his Del Mar kitchen for five years and will continue to collaborate with the three-time James Beard Awards-nominated chef. HILLCREST— "City of Gold" is a new documentary on the life and work of LA Times restaurant critic Jonathan Gold; the entertaining and thoughtful film showcases the Pulitzer Prize-winning writer's deep affection for Los Angeles and highlights his role in spotlighting the communities that make up the city through their culinary identities. It makes its San Diego debut this Friday, March 25 at the Landmark Hillcrest theater. [EaterWire]

DEL MAR— Bushfire Kitchen, which has another location in La Costa and a related restaurant in Temecula called Bushfire Grill, will open a new outpost in the newly-renovated Beachside Del Mar complex. With a family-friendly menu focused scratch-made healthy meals featuring locally sourced, organic and non-GMO ingredients, Bushfire Kitchen plans to launch in late July; the Del Mar eatery will offer breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus 12 local beers on tap and California wines.
