The Patio Group Splits With Corporate Executive Chef John Medall

A chef shuffle for the growing hospitality group

Our tipline has been buzzing this week with the news that The Patio Group had ended its working relationship with John Medall, who was executive chef of its first restaurant, The Patio on Lamont, and transitioned to a role as the group's corporate executive chef, helping to oversee its multiple food concepts, including The Patio on Goldfinch.

In a statement, owner Gina Champion-Cain said, "The Patio Group and Chef John Medall parted ways this week, but we wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors. Moving forward, as The Patio Group continues to grow and broaden its culinary scope, launching new, neighborhood-focused and innovative concepts in 2016 and beyond, we look forward to welcoming guests in to experience those new venues and exciting menus."

When asked if the group would be naming a chef to replace Medall, Cain told Eater, "As The Patio Group continues to grow, our team structure is continually evolving so we will not be filling the executive chef position. We recently hired Jason Hotchkiss as director of culinary services. He will oversee a large portion of The Patio restaurant culinary programming, along with additional members of our talented food and beverage team.

When reached for comment, Medall shared, "I am moving on to find a place which will appreciate my talent, creativity and culture. The relationships and bonds I have made will be life long and certainly will transcend to my next adventure."
