Fathom Bistro Anniversary & Sour Fest; Saltbox's New Chef

Plus, a chocolate and wine pairing.

SHELTER ISLAND— Treasured bait and tackle shop Fathom Bistro turned three this week and will pull out all the stops this weekend for a Sour Saturday anniversary party starting at 10 a.m. on February 6. A slew of sours will be on tap, including a cranberry version of Fall Brewing's Jazz Hands Berliner Weisse, Cellar 3's Blanc Tart Barrique, a bunch of fantastic "tion" beers from Russian River and Keelhauled Again, a sour made just for the event by Bear Republic. The beer bar will be serving its regular food menu for the occasion. [EaterWire]

DOWNTOWN— Saltbox Dining & Drinking in the Hotel Palomar has a new executive chef, Brad Kraten, who has worked in many Bay Area restaurants and comes to San Diego from Park Place at the Cypress Hotel. Kraten has been putting his spin on the menus, adding bar bites that range from maple-bacon popcorn to buttermilk biscuits with maple black pepper, bacon and spicy red pepper jam and new mains that include red wine-braised pot roast, buttermilk-fried Mary's Chicken with creamed kale and honey hot sauce and shrimp and grits. AROUND TOWN— Starting Friday, February 5 and running through February 29, all Luna Grill locations are celebrating 'Heart Month' by featuring a chocolate and wine pairing to benefit the American Heart Association. A portion of sales from the Mediterranean fast-casual concept's red wine and a dark chocolate mini cupcake offering ($8) will support the AHA's 'Go Red for Women' campaign, which educates on heart health.
