Burnside Reopens After Expansion; New Carnivore Sandwich Shops

Plus, the Spirit of Baja dinner.

NORMAL HEIGHTS— Burnside's revamp is complete and it will soft reopen at 5 p.m. tonight, with a new 28-foot bar and layout that helped the eatery double its capacity. There's also a bigger focus on beer, with an expanded number of taps and more bottle offerings. A fully refreshed menu will be rolled out soon but the kitchen in currently cooking up the Den Burger, honey glazed chicken wings, pulled pork sandwich and sliders, with all dishes coming with fries or tots. AROUND TOWN— A new deli is currently flooding the zone; now serving breakfast and lunch daily is Carnivore Sandwich has shops at 670 West B Street and 317 10th Avenue. Morning eats range from lox and bagels to egg sandwiches and breakfast burritos while the lunch menu offers soups, salads, panini, specialty sandwiches and build-your-own custom sandwich options. A third grab and go outpost, dubbed Carnivore Express, will be opening soon at 707 Broadway inside the Chase building. [EaterWire]

DOWNTOWN— Taste Baja though its ingredients, on the plate and in your glass at The Westgate Hotel's Spirit of Baja dinner, scheduled for Friday, April 15 that will kick off with a mezcal cocktail reception before launching into a five-course dinner paired with wine from the Valle de Guadalupe's Adobe Guadalupe, Monte Xanic, Paoloni Wines and Finca La Carrodilla. The Westgate's executive chef Fabrice Hardel will be handling hors d’oeuvres while Bracero's culinary leader, chef Javier Plascencia, creates the event's four main courses.
