Slater’s 50/50 Sold to Prep for Brand Expansion

Expect a revamp of existing stores & more locations

Slater’s 50/50, home to the half-bacon, half-beef burger, has been sold. The OC Register reports that all six stores, including locations in Liberty Station and San Marcos, have been purchased by a new restaurant group. News of the sale yesterday prompted rumors that the eateries would close, prompting founder Scott Slater to write a Facebook post that read, in part:

In the course of business it sometimes becomes necessary for one to make very difficult decisions, and the decision to hand over the reins of Slater’s 50/50 for the betterment of all who love the Excesstasy that Slater’s 50/50 provides. This was by far the most difficult decision I’ve ever made.

Slater recently shuttered his sausage concept, S&M Sausage & Meat on Park Boulevard. He will remain a consultant with his "Burgers by Design" concept, which will now be owned and operated by the Elite Restaurant Group, Inc.; Mike Spilky of Location Matters represented Michael Nakhleh of Elite Restaurant Group in the sale.

In a statement to Eater, Nakhleh shared his plans to revamp the current batch of Slater’s and grow the brand, "Elite Restaurant Group is excited to be acquiring Slater's 50/50. Elite is a family-owned and operated business. We have worked with and proudly been a part of many amazing restaurant concepts and Slater's has demonstrated to have the most impressive culture, customer service and best of all, food we have ever seen!

We are pleased to announce this is not the end of Slater's 50/50 but an exciting new chapter that is commencing at the beginning of 2017 and coming to a neighborhood near you. We have a dynamic plan to remodel existing location stores currently in San Diego and the Southern California region and rapidly expanding the brand by opening new stores and franchising the brand nationwide and also abroad as there has been a large volume of interest. We look forward to bringing the, "Holy Trinity" of Burgers, Bacon & Beer around the globe!

Scott Slater, the "Baron of Bacon", will naturally still be a part of the brand and he will be working with Elite to improve and expand the brand in the launch of the rebrand in the upcoming year. We are tremendously excited and honored to be a part of such an amazing brand and to become a part of the Slater's 50/50 family. There will be a lot of new and exciting things happening in the upcoming year and Slater's 50/50 is honored and proud to be serving you in a location near you very soon!"
