Has San Diego lost its appetite for sausages? Last month, S&M Sausage & Meat shuttered on Park Boulevard and now a tipster tells us that Hillcrest's Salt & Cleaver will say goodbye before the end of the year. The sausage-centric eatery, which first opened on Fifth Avenue in 2013, plans to shut its doors for good on December 21 with an official closing party.
Eater reached out to Salt & Cleaver's ownership group, who shared, "It’s definitely a sad day for the Salt & Cleaver family. The neighbourhood and people of Hillcrest are truly amazing and we've had an incredible four years calling it home. Unfortunately, as of late we've observed what is hopefully just a temporary slump in the Hillcrest economy — perhaps it's a lack of new developments. We want to say a big thank you to everyone who has ever set foot in our establishment and a very special thank you to all of the staff members who made our place of work a family setting."
