Joining existing locations in Pacific Beach and Oceanside is a new outpost of Barrel Republic, which owner David Pike has just opened in Carlsbad Village. The concept revolves around pour-your-own beer; a wristband allows activation of a rotating lineup of 52 taps with a staff of certified Cicerones on hand to recommend beer styles and guide drinkers towards appropriate glassware.
The 3,200-square-foot space, which includes an outdoor beer garden, has a full kitchen that’s cooking up a menu of upscale pub food from chef Michael Brown, who also oversees Barrel Republic’s Oceanside eatery; look for everything from California-inspired Cuban sandwiches to mini crab cake bites and smoked tomato and jalapeño macaroni and cheese.
