A local chef talent is putting himself back on the market. Cowboy Star Restaurant and Butcher Shop chef de cuisine Christopher Osborne is ending his tenure at the East Village progressive steakhouse, with his final day scheduled for November 30. Osborne, who cooked at George’s California Modern before joining Cowboy Star, ran the open kitchen alongside executive chef Victor Jimenez, where one of the highlights is a nine-course tasting menu served at the chef’s counter. Osbourne tells Eater that he’ll take a couple weeks off before starting to job search, saying, "The last few years have been an incredible time of growth and development. I would like to thank everyone who made the experience exceptional. After a short break I look forward to seeing everyone in my next venture, whereever it may lead me."
Cowboy Star owners Jon and Angie Weber, along with co-founder Jimenez, shared their own statement: "Over the past decade Cowboy Star has been privileged with some incredible team members, but when Chef Chris Osborne joined us 3 years ago as a Sous Chef, we all saw something special. He brought a raw talent and culinary vision that would quickly earn him the title of Chef De Cuisine.
Understanding the nature of the restaurant industry and need for personal and professional growth, it is a bittersweet moment for us to say goodbye to Chef Osborne as he embarks on his next culinary adventure. Chef Osborne not only brought talent but a tremendous work ethic and a drive to excel in the kitchen that was contagious. While the entire Cowboy Star team is sad to see him go, we all look forward to supporting him in his future endeavors.
