Two years after opening in Del Mar Highlands Town Center, Carnitas' Snack Shack has decided to wind down operations at its North County eatery. The 2,200-square-foot space, which launched in August 2014, was the second location for the mega-popular pork-centric concept that was first founded in North Park in 2011. In May of this year, chef Hanis Cavin and partner Sara Stroud opened Carnitas' Snack Shack on the waterfront at North Embarcadero, which features an outdoor cocktail bar and bay views.
Stroud told Eater that the Del Mar eatery will close on December 31 of this year. Conceding that the mall location was not the right fit for the concept, Stroud said they will concentrate on their two existing locations, which are thriving, and did not rule out future expansion in another North County neighborhood.
