Joining the growing collection of local Asian dessert shops is Cake de Partie, which soft opened this week in Kearny Mesa. The spacious cafe, which will eventually include an outdoor patio, is owned by a Thai pastry chef whose baking prowess is displayed in a case that holds slices of trendy multi-layer crepe cakes, fluffy coconut cake, praline almond caramel cake and mango mousse topped with white wine jelly.
There are plated desserts too, ranging from panna cotta and green tea chocolate lava cake to fried roti banana and date toffee pudding served with ice cream.
Before you indulge in sweets, there are savory snacks including chicken wings, grilled meat balls with tamarind sauce, chicken satay, salads and pasta with a sauce inspired by Thai Tom Yum soup.
Now open Tuesday through Sunday from noon to 10 p.m., Cake de Partie also has a large beverage program. There are coffee drinks brewed with Cafe Virtuoso beans, plus Thai iced coffee and tea, and craft sodas sweetened with housemade fruit syrups in flavors running from hibiscus pomegranate to lychee rose and honey ginger; add an optional shot of soju to make it a boozy sparkling cocktail. Two handles of beer — and IPA and a Japanese lager — will tapped within the next two weeks.
