The Sweet Scene at Extraordinary Desserts in Little Italy

In this special Sweets Week edition of Eater Scenes, photographer Sergey Kolivayko captures a busy Friday night at Extraordinary Desserts' Little Italy outpost.

Feeding San Diego's sweet tooth since 1989, Extraordinary Desserts owner/executive pastry chef Karen Krasne founded her first cafe in Bankers Hill and launched the Union Street location in 2004, where crowds of up to 500 diners fill to the 7,000-square-foot dessert destination every weekend. Looking to bypass the long lines? Stop in for pastries and coffee before noon.

At the Little Italy shop, which also serves savory snacks, from panini to salads, and a popular weekend brunch, Krasne just started offering the Kitchen Secrets class series in which she teaches students to make her signature desserts.
