New Startup Delivers Growlers From Local Breweries To Your Door

San Francisco-based Hopsy brews up a San Diego presence

What's the next best, and freshest, option to stopping into your favorite brewery's tasting room for a growler fill? Getting one delivered right to your door. A sharp-eyed tipster spotted a notice indicating that Hopsy, a new startup providing growler delivery service, will be opening up a storefront in San Diego in the same Linda Vista strip mall that houses Ballast Point's Home Brew Mart.

Launched in the Bay Area in early 2016, Hopsy is currently in the permitting process here in San Diego, where it aims to hit the streets by the end of the year; co-founder Sebastian Tron told Eater that they have five local breweries on board so far, with the hopes of signing up 20 area breweries within Hopsy's first year.

Hopsy delivers brews in 32 ounce glass "growlettes", which vary in price depending on the beer and brewery, with free delivery on orders of four or more. It also offers a countertop HomeTap system that comes with two 2-liter bottles in each delivery and a beer club in which members receive four growlettes every week, every other week or once a month. The online beer menu will offer everything from core beers to special releases.

Beer drinkers will also be able to visit the Hopsy store to shop from its various growlers, although beer tasting will not be allowed on site.
