Gelson's Markets & 99 Ranch Market Set to Expand in San Diego

Three new Gelson's and two more from 99 Ranch are coming.

A slew of new markets are headed to San Diego County as a result of the mass shutter of Haggen stores following the chain's Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing late last year. Due to debut this Thursday, January 14 is our first outpost of Gelson's Markets, a premier supermarket chain with stores in Los Angeles and Orange County. A grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. at 2707 Via De La Valle in Del Mar, with the first 200 customers scoring a gift bag valued at $20.

A rep for the markets says there are two more planned for the area — Gelson's will open at 7660 El Camino Real in Carlsbad on February 11 and at 730 Turquoise Street in Pacific Beach in late March.

And regular shoppers at Asian supermarket chain 99 Ranch Market's Clairemont Mesa store will soon have two additional locations to frequent. Another 99 Ranch Market will slot in nearby at 5950 Balboa Avenue, with a likely opening in June, while a third market, at 505 Telegraph Canyon Road in Chula Vista, should launch sometime later in 2016.
