Swami's Cafe

It’s finally Friday, which means it’s almost time to clock-off and get those weekend vibes started. No plans yet? No problem! Eater's here with a handy set of recommendations to assist in your dining destination decision-making. In this regular feature, we'll help you discover recently opened restaurants and uncover new-to-you bars and eateries (plus occasional menu debuts) specializing in everything from Friday happy hour cocktails through to Sunday brunch, so you can make the most of that well-earned downtime.

Breakfast in Point Loma: Swamis Cafe

Swamis Cafe

A tipster wrote in and told us a brand new outpost of Swami's Cafe can now be found in Las Olas' old spot in Point Loma. Opened just last week, the fourth outpost of this popular family owned restaurant also boasts outposts in Oceanside, Encinitas, Poway and La Mesa. While there are location-specific menu specials plus a happy hour in the works, for now patrons can expect to see the same menu fare as its sister cafes. With a focus on whole foods and (mostly) health conscious eats, the menu covers everything from wheatgrass shots and smoothie bowls, to burritos and huevos rancheros. 3924 W. New Dinner Menu: Jsix

Executive chef Christian Graves just debuted a new dinner menu at this buzzy eatery, which is regular fixture on Eater's 38. His seasonal new additions include a delicate smoked apple-cured trout with chive sticks, and burrata cheese puffs with wilted spinach to start. While crab chitarra, roasted scallops with mussels, and a slow-roasted "three-bird" turducken grace the entree selections. Those who care for dessert should also enjoy the new coconut panna cotta served with blackberry cabernet sauce and toasted coconut. 616 J Street (619) 531-8744 [Photo: Mike Newton]

New PB Parlor: Hammond's Gourmet Ice Cream

Hammond's Ice Cream

The North Park purveyors of cold, creamy goodness recently opened a second installment of their popular gourmet ice cream parlor in Pacific Beach. Stop by and enjoy one of their now signature, mini ice-cream cone flights and give some of their new flavors a whirl. Alongside staples like pineapple, coconut cream, and banana storm, vanilla rose, Vietnamese coffee, plus made-in-Hawaii Tropical Dreams, have also been added to the menu. Point Loma residents will be pleased to hear a third Hammond's outpost is coming this summer. 4118 Garnet Ave. (858) 230-7433  [Photo: Facebook]

2016 Craft Line Up: Green Flash Brewing Company

Green Flash Brewing Co.

While Green Flash's shiny new tasting room may have opened last spring, several new brews in their 2016 craft lineup are set to debut throughout the year. Led by Brewmaster Eric Jensen, the Tangerine Soul Style IPA, and American wheat ale Passionfruit Kicker kicked things off in January, while craft offerings for February are set to include Cosmic Ristretto - a Baltic Porter with espresso - and double stout with Serrano chilies, Dia de los Serranos. Stop by the tasting room to sample these sips and enjoy bites from the in-house food truck, Green Flash Gastro, which serves up tasty morsels like truffled mac and meaty sandwiches. 6550 Mira Mesa Blvd. (858) 622-0085 [Photo: Facebook]

New Taco Tuesday Spot: La Vecindad

Local Habit

After reopening in December the menu at this casual counter service spot, which now centers around Mexican eats and drinks, has been garnering favorable Yelp reviews for its chille relleno tacos, "homey atmosphere", and "excellent margaritas". With a colorful new look and communal picnic tables, a sign encourages diners to talk to one another instead of getting sucked into smart phones (there is no free Wi-Fi). Tortillas are homemade and come wrapped around fillings from pollo to carne asada. One Tuesdays enjoy two tacos for five bucks. 3827 5th Ave [Photo: Eater San Diego]
