Acqua al 2 still has a few days left of its tenure in the Gaslamp, but Eater has some information on the next tenant. Cold Beers & Cheeseburgers, a brand from Square One Concepts which also runs Bootlegger and Pacific Beach Shore Club, will be moving in and reopening by Memorial Day. A complete remodel of the front of house is in the works, which will include a new central island bar, a glassed-in cooler, garage doors that open onto the sidewalk patios and a ton of TVs.
As the name might suggest, Cold Beers & Cheeseburgers will have plenty of beer on hand, 40 on tap and more than 100 in bottles and cans. A variety of specialty cheeseburgers, made fresh from hand-formed patties, are the focal point of the menu along with appetizers, salads, hot dogs and sandwiches.
There are currently four Cold Beers & Cheeseburgers locations in Arizona, and Square One president Barrett Rinzler says he plans to open at least three more in the San Diego market; areas for future growth could include Little Italy, North Park, North County and the beach neighborhoods. Regarding the expansion, Location Matters' Paul Ahern said, “Considering all the success this concept has experienced back in Arizona, not to mention a name that says it all, I believe Cold Beers & Cheeseburgers is going to be a huge hit in the Gaslamp amongst locals, tourists and conventioneers alike.”
