First opened in San Diego in 2010, TOAST Enoteca & Cucina has closed up shop in the East Village. Located steps from Petco Park, the restaurant offered samples of hundreds of wines served via an auto-pour system and an Italian menu from owner and executive chef Martin Gonzalez. In a statement, Gonzalez called the shutter a "difficult decision" but hinted that he may have something else in the works for the J Street space, saying the company "is moving in a new and exciting direction".
Gonzalez currently operates a second local restaurant, Acqua Al 2, which he established in the Gaslamp back in 2000.
