San Diego County brewers are flying home with some serious hardware from the Brewers Association's 2015 Great American Beer Festival (GABF), held in Denver over the weekend, which awarded gold, silver and bronze medals in 92 different beer categories.
The winning-est local brewery was San Marcos’ Rip Current Brewing Co., which also operates a tasting room in North Park; Rip Current won Very Small Brewing Company and Very Small Brewing Company Brewer of the Year in addition to earning a gold medal for its Break Line Bock and a silver for Black Lagoon Scottish Strong.
And several area breweries were awarded gold, including New English Brewing Co. for their Zumbar Chocolate Coffee Imperial Stout, Societe Brewing Co. for The Coachman, The Lost Abbey for Veritas 015, Green Flash Brewing Co. for Le Freak, and Santee's BNS Brewing & Distilling Co. for their Revolver IPA. Other breweries who medaled this year include Karl Strauss Brewing Company, Pizza Port, South Park Brewing Co., Breakwater Brewing Co., URBN St. Brewing Co., Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens, Liberty Station, and Ballast Point Brewing & Spirits; see the complete list of winners here.
