Eater has word of a property that's just hit the market; in the heart of the Gaslamp, at 840 5th Avenue, is a 10,000-square-foot space that last held Lucky Bastard Saloon, which opened in 2013 and shuttered this past April. Occupying the historic San Diego Hardware building, the previous tenant made significant improvements to the space, which includes a 50-foot bar, an entertainment permit, a large outdoor patio and close to a 400-person capacity. (More details here.)
Does the Gaslamp need another nightclub? Strom Commercial's Nate Benedetto says that though the space would be an easy turnkey proposition for another bar or club, the landlord is also interested in food-driven proposals; Benedetto tells Eater, "The layout, equipment and licensing is in place for a nightlife operator, but we are also approaching chef-driven concepts. We can see that 5th Avenue visitors are gravitating to spots like Rustic Root, Searsucker and Cafe 21, where thoughtful menus are resulting in big sales numbers."
