Last night, the tipline was buzzing with reports that longtime favorite banh mi shop and bakery, K Sandwiches, was burning; the popular eatery, which first opened in 2006, specializes in Vietnamese sandwiches and croissant sandwiches, plus snacks and sweets.
A fire broke out in the kitchen around 9 p.m. and caused an estimated $1.5 million in damages; it will likely be a while before they reopen, as the building has been rendered a total loss. Luckily, no employees or customers were injured in the fire, though NBC7 says that K Sandwiches' elderly owner was treated for stress-related issues.
