Catania Coastal Italian Debuts Brunch; Kitchen 4140 Goes Gluten-Free

And a fried chicken throwdown.

LA JOLLA Restaurant with a view Catania Coastal Italian will premiere its brunch menu this Saturday and Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The menu features polenta pancakes, farro oatmeal, veal Milanese with fried eggs, and other Italian-influenced daytime items. DINNERWIREOn Thursday, August 27, guests can be free of gluten at garden-fresh restaurant Kitchen 4140.  Chef Kurt Metzger and gluten-free brewery Duck Foot Brewing will team up for a "wheatless" evening of six courses with pairings. Courses range from scallops with charred Corn, pea puree, and candied bacon to dry-aged ribeye with chorizo. The evening starts at 6:00 p.m. and seats are $79 a person. HILLCREST — Cali-Creole restaurant Local Habit invites other restaurants to compete for title of best fried chicken. On August 18, at 6:00 p.m., judges (and guests) will sample yard bird from chefs Jimmy Tessier of Local Habit, Karen Blair of Small Bar, Jason McLeod of Ironside, Jason Gethin of former Table No. 10, Rich Sweeney of Florent, and Karl Prohaska of The Culinary Freight Train.
