Callebaut Chocolate Tour & New Chef For Tom Ham's

AROUND TOWN— Belgian chocolate brand Callebaut kicks off a two-day tour in San Diego on Wednesday, August 12; its tricked-out VW van will be parked at Michele Coulon Deserter from noon to 1 p.m., with additional stops at George's at the Cove at 2 p.m. and the La Valencia Hotel at 3 p.m.; at each destination, Callebaut ambassador Russ Thayer will educate on the "bean-to-chocolate" experience and give away samples of chocolate confections. On Thursday, August 13 from 4 to 5 p.m., the chocolate tour heads to Extraordinary Desserts in Little Italy, where free samples will include a chocolat pot de creme duo featuring Callebaut Dark Milk and Bittersweet Chocolate. HARBOR ISLAND— Tom Ham's Lighthouse executive chef Lance Repp moved on to head up the University Club kitchen and his sous chef Kyle Kovar has since been promoted to executive chef of the waterfront restaurant, where he just oversaw the launch of a new dinner menu that includes seared wild-caught salmon with crisp salmon skin, fennel-saffron aioli and black garlic puree and porcini-crusted Duroc pork belly with creamed corn, pork rinds and Fresno chili chutney. SOUTH PARK— On Thursday, August 13, The Rose will host a free wine lecture in their new event space with Georgian wine ambassador and sommelier Sarah May Grunwald.
