Sovereign Swings Open in the Gaslamp; Toast Launches Sunday Brunch

Plus, Catania signs up for a Green Flash Supper Club.

GASLAMP— Sovereign Kitchen & Bar finally opened over Fourth of July weekend next to its companion eatery, the casual Food Shop which opened in May. The upscale Vietnamese eatery is a new local showcase for former NYC chef Michael Bao Huynh, featuring both traditional dishes and creative riffs that have become Huynh's signatures during his cooking career. Owner Alex Thao says that the restaurant is still awaiting its liquor license. EAST VILLAGE— This Sunday, July 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Toast Enoteca & Cucina is the debut of a new weekly brunch by executive chef Martin Gonzalez. Plates range from $8 to $15 and include omelets, homemade waffles and crepes, and eggs Benedict with focaccia, prosciutto and rosemary hollandaise. A bottomless mimosa option is $15 with the purchase of an entrée, but if you're drinking your brunch, it's $25 for only never-ending mimosas. [EaterWire]

POWAY— Green Flash Brewing Co. is continuing its popular Supper Club series with a dinner that'll be held at the new Cellar 3 tasting room on Monday, July 27. On deck will be Vince Schofield, executive chef of Catania, who'll be cooking up a multi-course meal that will be paired with some rare ales from the brewery's barrel-aging program. [EaterWire]
