For the past year and a half, ever since Katsuya shuttered in early 2014, tipsters have been speculating about who would score the 8,410-square-feet space that anchors the ground floor of the Gaslamp's Andaz San Diego.
The boutique hotel has confirmed that global hospitality company The ONE Group will be opening STK Rebel in the spot next year. An offshoot of its signature steakhouse brand STK, which has glitzy global locations from London to Los Angeles and Las Vegas, the STK Rebel concept is reportedly designed to be more casual and accessibly-priced. The San Diego outpost of STK Rebel is one of four planned for next year, joining already-annouced restaurants in Denver, Austin and Miami.
Urban Strategies Group's Michael Burton, who helped to secure the deal, says "The ONE Group is one of the most reputable and sought after hospitality groups in the country. To bring a restaurant and entertainment operator of this quality and caliber to San Diego speaks volumes to the energy that exists throughout downtown today, and clearly illustrates the excitement of the growth still to come."
According to a release, STK Rebel will have indoor and outdoor seating plus two private dining areas.
