LITTLE ITALY— Friends of Eater have been raving about M.A.D Fix Coffee, which now shares space with the Love & Aesthetics shop at 621 W. Fir Street. Open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., the cafe is brewing up drinks made with Caffe Calabria-roasted beans and stocking fresh batches of North Park's Nomad Donuts and other locally-made pastries daily.
UTC AREA— The new fast-casual Un Mundo Mexican Grill at 4150 Regents Park Row is serving a build-your-own menu of burritos, tacos, bowls and salads made with hormone-free meats and fresh vegetables from local farms. Protein options range from grilled chili-marinated steak to lime-cilantro Mexican prawns and New Mexico braised pork shoulder while the housemade salsas include green tomatillo, habanero and creamy chipotle.
PACIFIC BEACH— Lu Pizzetta is a new walk-up shop at 4508 Cass Street specializing in small pizzas that are folded to be hand-held and eaten on the go, made from dough that's described a mix of focaccia and traditional pizza dough. They're a go-to snack in the chef's hometown of Pescara, Italy.
LA JOLLA— New to 6830 La Jolla Boulevard, La Clochette Du Coin is a French-inspired cafe offering organic coffee drinks, sandwiches, desserts and pastries from downtown's Le Parfait Paris.
HILLCREST— First launched in Little Italy in 2012, Napizza opened its second location in 4S Ranch last year and just debuted a third outpost in The Hub complex in Hillcrest at 1030 University Avenue.
