Mike's BBQ Expands to Clairemont; Mastiff Wins at Sausage Fest

CLAIREMONT— Mike's BBQ, whose first location debuted in Escondido in 2011, has been renovating the site formerly occupied by LW's BBQ at 3057 Clairemont Drive for its second eatery. The family-run restaurant says they'll be opening the new space on Tuesday, June 23. [EaterWire]

EAST VILLAGE— Last night, chefs from 11 local restaurants including NINE-TEN, S&M Sausage & Meat, Salt & Cleaver and more grilled against each other at Jsix's annual Sausage Fest. After a blind tasting, audience votes were tallied; Cowboy Star placed third, while past winner Coronado Brewing Company came in second; Mastiff Sausage Company, one of Eater's top food truck picks, took home first prize for its bratwurst. HILLCREST— On Thursday, July 2 from 5 to 9 p.m., the game-themed Tabletop Commons, which opened in April on University Avenue, will be cohosting an event called "Live the Journey" with local company Live a Great Story and ten percent of the night's sales will go to support the Hillcrest Youth Center, the only San Diego recreational center dedicated to the needs of LGBTQ+ youth.
