Chicken Charlie to Unveil New Fried Food Creations at the Fair

What won't he deep fry?

"Chicken Charlie" Boghosian has been cooking up wacky food on the fair circuit for over three decades, inventing such decadent treats as fried Oreos and the Krispy Kreme Triple Cheeseburger. Last fall, the San Diego-resident opened up his first brick-and-mortar eatery, Chicken Charlie’s FryBQ, in Clairemont.

For this year's San Diego County Fair, which runs from June 5 to July 5, Boghosian will debut three new deep fried creations, including the mind-bending Totally Fried SlimFast Bar, a chewy chocolate crisp SlimFast Bar dipped in pancake batter, fried and topped with powdered sugar and chocolate syrup. Also new are the Totally Fried Peanut Butter Pickle, a pickle stuffed with peanut butter and fried in cornmeal batter, and the Totally Fried S’moreo, a battered and fried S’mores Oreo cookie. Favorite foods from years past will make a return appearance, including that infamous Krispy Kreme Triple Decker Cheeseburger, plus Totally Fried frog legs, avocado, Twinkies and Oreos.

Among the other new food items being unveiled at the fair this year are the Grilled Cheese Frito Crunch Sandwich, Chocolate-Covered Pork Rinds, Brussels Sprouts Sandwich and something called Deep-Fried Starbucks, fried dough studded with whole coffee beans and chocolate chips, coated in sugar and served with whipped cream.
