After a top-to-bottom remodel, FIREHOUSE American Eatery + Lounge has reopened in Pacific Beach just steps from the boardwalk. Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, from 9 a.m. to midnight on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 2 a.m. on weekends, the eatery, which first launched almost a decade ago, has the same owners as Kettner Exchange, and FIREHOUSE's sleek new look, which includes a reworked dining room and rooftop, is from part of the design team behind the Little Italy hotspot.
The food has been completely redone too, via new executive chef Jason Maitland, who made his mark in local kitchens from Arterra to Flavor Del Mar. Maitland's menu includes a long list of snacks, from head-on salt and pepper shrimp to tater tot-shaped cheesy polenta, bourbon-bacon popcorn and twice-fried chicken wings in a variety of flavorings, plus entrees that range from slow-cooked chipotle-glazed pork rib tips with bacon fat mac and cheese and fried chicken served with braised collared greens, grits and a jalapeno-cream cheese biscuit. In a video posted on FIREHOUSE's Facebook page, Maitland introduces himself and shares a quick peek at the eatery's new dining room.
