A reader turned us on to the San Diego debut of VOM FASS, a German-based retailer that just opened its first local store in The HUB Hillcrest, the recently-renovated Uptown District center, home to the new Ritual JuiceBox and a Napizza expansion.
VOM FASS, which loosely translates to "from the cask" in German, specializes in flavored oils and vinegars from small family producers that can be sampled on-site, purchased in various sized bottles and refilled at the store. Also available for tasting are wide range of spirits, from Irish whiskey to Scotch, small-batch bourbon, absinthe, brandy, liqueurs and more.
Franchise owner Colleen Cavalieri told Eater that the University Avenue store is the first of three she has planned for the area; locations in Carlsbad and Encinitas should open within the next year or so. The company's website also lists stores in Coronado, Del Mar and Mission Hills as coming soon.
