KEARNY MESA— Craft beer hub Common Theory is celebrating its first anniversary on Convoy Street with an upcoming week of special events that kicks off Monday, June 1 with special kegs, including a Mother Earth collaboration beer release, and a tapas-style menu courtesy of the night's kitchen guests, Jonathan Bautista from George's California Modern, The Cork and Craft's Phillip Esteban and Nate Soroko of Toronado. Other notable anniversary happenings include a massive AleSmith tap takeover on Thursday, June 4 along with a Mostra Coffee pop-up shop, and three flights of sour beers offered on Sour Saturday, June 6. COLLEGE AREA— Readers are reporting that Garden Kitchen has remodeled and reopened at 4204 Rolando Boulevard and is serving dinner from Tuesday through Saturday. The former takeout eatery now has dine-in seating for 50, plus a patio, and a menu using produce sourced from local farms that includes mustard stout-braised pork belly with parsnip puree, cinnamon-spiced fried chicken with bitter green slaw and tomato jam and vegan and vegetarian-friendly dishes, from vegan meatloaf to tofu ceviche and portobello mushroom carpaccio. BEER TV— Episode descriptions have been released for the new KPBS Explore Project series Kings of Craft Beer, which debuts on Thursday, May 21. The six episode run, produced by a team from SDSU's School of Theatre, Television, and Film, will feature established breweries like Stone Brewing Co., Ballast Point, and Coronado, plus smaller startups, women involved in the local beer scene, competition within the industry and the future of craft beer in San Diego.
