Waters Catering Now Delivers and Bacon & Barrels is Coming

Plus, Dirty Birds flies into the College Area.

LA JOLLA— Waters Fine Foods & Catering, which has cafe locations in Bay Park, Solana Beach and Downtown, launched a new delivery service this week that can now bring bring their entire menu, plus daily specials, right to your door with a $50 minimum order and a $5 delivery fee. At present, they're starting with the La Jolla area but will add more zip codes as demand increases. Waters is also planning on expanding delivery options to include appetizer platters and housemade salad dressings, dips and more. [EaterWire]

EMBARCADERO— Back for a second year in San Diego is the Bacon & Barrels festival, an all-day celebration of bacon-related dishes and beverages aged in barrels, from bourbon and scotch to wine and beer. Scheduled for Saturday, May 9 at Embarcadero Marina Park South, the event features more than 100 tasting booths ranging from spirits to craft beer and bacon-inspired bites from restaurants including Sabuku Sushi, Florent, Sandwich Emporium, Nomad Donuts, Uptown Tavern and more. Plus, there will be live music to drink and eat by. General admission tickets are $50; $90 VIP passes include early access, a sparkling wine pop-up, preferred seating and special tastings. COLLEGE AREA— Wing specialist Dirty Birds, which was founded in Pacific Beach in 2008, is expanding. Readers and tipsters noticed an ABC application posted at 6499 El Cajon Boulevard; the eatery, which offers a menu of more than 30 flavors of chicken wings, will reportedly open in late 2015 or early 2016.
