The striking building at 1263 University Avenue that was most recently Commonwealth Ultra Lounge has changed ownership and will reopen on April 15. First-time proprietor Evan Jones secured the space with help from Capital Real Estate Ventures' Justin Earley and is revamping the Hillcrest property with custom comic book-inspired murals for a new game-themed food and drink concept called Tabletop Commons.

The eatery will double as a play room and hangout for the Comic-Con set; Jones tells Eater that diners will have free access to San Diego's largest library of board games and a Wii U station installed in a loft area.

Chef Miguel Valdez, who departed 100 Wines last month, has been charged with creating a comfort food menu, from bar snacks to dessert, with veteran bartender Chris Prell overseeing the beverage program, which includes seven craft beer taps and speciality cocktails.
