Best Cocktail Competition and an Eight Chef Collab Dinner

Plus, doughtnut fried chicken sandwiches are happening.

DOWNTOWN— Last night, The Lion's Share hosted the first annual Best Of The Best contest, organized by the San Diego chapter of the United States Bartenders' Guild. Superstar cocktail makers from ten of the city's top bars, including Noble Experiment, Sycamore Den, Polite Provisions and more, submitted their best cocktail to a blind tasting panel made up of industry judges. In the end, a tiki-inspired entry from Kettner Exchange, called The Tiki Cross, emerged victorious. [EaterWire]

BAY HO— On Thursday, April 23, eight chefs will collaborate on a Chef’s Whim Spring Fling dinner held in Kitchen 4140's private wine room. Among the chefs joining chef/owner Kurt Metzger are Mikel Anthony, Jeff Bonilla and Katie Weiner, a contestant from the most recent season of Top ChefA portion of the proceeds from the eight-course dinner will go to support the San Diego chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. NORTH PARK— StreetCar Merchants of Fried Chicken, Doughnuts & Coffee have launched decadent doughnut fried chicken sandwiches. The Southerner splits a cinnamon sugar doughnut, stuffs it with a fried chicken breast, fried egg, bacon and jalapeño and drizzles the whole shebang with maple glaze. [Facebook]
