Readers have been asking us what would replace Southpaw Social Club at 815 J Street, which has been up for grabs since the restaurant shuttered last fall. Social Tap, which opened in Ventura in 2012, is planning to open a San Diego location in the 4,200-square-foot ballpark-adjacent space this summer. A complete remodel of the site is in the works, that will include a fresh layout inside and a new front entry point on J Street.
The food ranges from scratch-made tacos to burgers and sandwiches, with a weekend brunch that features a build-your-own Bloody Mary bar, and a strong craft cocktail and local beer presence. The San Diego outpost will also offer a $10 lunch menu and daily specials, from Taco Tuesday to half-off wine on Thursdays; live music is on the docket for Wednesday nights. Social Tap is also planning a third location, which will open this summer in Scottsdale, AZ.
