EAST VILLAGE— In preparation for baseball season, Rare Form executive chef Aldo Negrete is launching a new menu of gourmet hot dogs that debuts this Friday, March 27. The pork-and-beef dogs are housemade, as are their buns, and range from a twist on a TJ-style hot dog, here dubbed The Murph, which tops a bacon-wrapped hotdog with charred onions and jalapenos, and the Abe Froman, an ode to the Chicago classic complete with sport peppers, atomic relish and celery salt. A foie gras-enriched hot dog is on tap, as is a seafood-based lobster version and a hot dog gilded with cheese curds and gravy. [EaterWire]
KEARNY MESA— Our beer drinking readers have been telling us about Kilowatt Brewing, which just debuted a tasting room next to Eater's favorite karaoke joint, Karaoke 101. Open to the public Wednesday through Sunday and fed by a rotating roster of food trucks, the nanobrewery's house beers include the sessionable Touch & Go IPA, a Coconut Chai Porter and a Chocolate Macadamia Stout. CLAIREMONT— Kitchen 4140 chef/owner Kurt Metzger recently guest cheffed at a resort on the island of St. Lucia and from Wednesday, April 8 to Saturday, April 11, will be offering the dishes he cooked in Caribbean to San Diego diners, including a seared scallop with candied bacon, cauliflower puree and coconut-ginger sauce, butter-poached Chilean seabass with caviar and a coconut-mango creme brûlée.
