Over the weekend, Eater got a tip that Bijou would be holding its final dinner service on Sunday, March 22.
The Prospect Street restaurant first opened in March 2013 as Amaya, a Southern-tinged offshoot of Amaya at The Grand Del Mar.
Last June, the restaurant was tweaked and reconceived as Bijou, a French-inspired bistro with a menu from James Beard Award-nominated chef William Bradley of Addison, with chef de cuisine Shaun Gethin leading the kitchen.
A rep confirms that the restaurant shuttered last night, saying the decision had no reflection on the staff but cites the reorganization of assets as the reason for the closure. Owner Doug Manchester, who owns the San Diego Union-Tribune and The Grand Del Mar, plans to absorb the employees, including chef Shaun Gethin, back into the North County resort.
