While he's prepping for the reopening of La Villa in Little Italy, which he has renamed Sorrento, restaurateur Antonino Mastellone is simultaneously working on a complete redo of Solunto's, his bakery and eatery located just across India Street.
After more than 40 year in operation, the space is getting a revamp that includes a thorough and modern makeover that will likely take two months to complete.
One side of Solunto's will more casual, with a 'tavola calda' counter stocked with prepared food for dine-in and take-out, plus a gelato and espresso bar and a pastry display. They will also continue to serve Italian and American-style breakfast.
A newly-installed wood and gas-fired oven, viewable from the all-white, chandelier-lit dining room, will churn out Neapolitan pizza; the full menu will also include homemade pasta. And a full liquor license means a new cocktail bar tucked into the back corner of the restaurant.
