Beer Pints for a Cause & a North County Food Fest

Plus, a Point Loma wine extravaganza.

ENCINITAS— Today, from 4 to 9 p.m., North County's Union Kitchen & Tap is hosting a "Pints for a Cause" sponsored by Ninkasi Brewing Company; for every pint of Ninkasi beer purchased, the brewery will donate $1 to City of Hope, a nonprofit that supports cancer, diabetes and serious illness research. CARLSBAD— The North Eats event returns for its second year on Sunday, April 26. Held at the Hilton Carlsbad Oceanfront Resort & Spa, the food tasting and cooking competition is produced by the organizer of San Diego's popular I Love Poke event. More than 20 North County restaurants, including Blue Ribbon Artisan Pizzeria and Solterra Winery and Kitchen plus Oceanside's Wrench and Rodent Seabasstropub and Masters Kitchen and Cocktail are scheduled to attend, with participating chefs creating competition dishes with olive oils and balsamics from Baker & Olive. POINT LOMA— The VinDiego Wine & Food Festival is headed to NTC Promenade in Liberty Station on Friday, April 10 and Saturday, April 11. Friday's Special Sunset Rare and Reserve Tasting, from 6 to 8:30 p.m., features 30 wineries pouring rare and reserve-level wines from California and Oregon, plus appetizers and live jazz. The Grand Tasting, scheduled for 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, will include unlimited wine samples from over 300 wines available, plus food from over 20 San Diego restaurants including The Patio, City Tacos and Solare.
