The former home of North End Lounge will get a second life as a craft beer hall, reports the San Diego Reader.
Just two months after opening its first locale in La Mesa, Bolt Brewery pounced on the 1971 India St. address for its new satellite tasting room.
Co-founder Molly Rust tells the Reader the expansion is happening faster than planned. While adding a second spot was always in the cards, she says her team wasn't on the market. But this 1,800-square-foot space with prime bay views was too good to pass up.
The permitting and buildout are under way. Bolt's bold move just two blocks away from Ballast Point's Tasting Room and Kitchen will create some healthy beer competition (and provide more excuses to bar hop along India Street). Ballast debuted in Little Italy in late 2013.
Expect 20 taps of Bolt beer, wine, food and both indoor and outdoor seating. Joe Busalacchi, who owns the corner spot, confirmed to Eater that the space was leased but that the adjacent property, Spaghetteria, is still up for grabs.
On February 8, a fundraiser at Bolt's current locale will benefit a La Mesa fire inspector who is in need of a heart transplant.
