The Baked Bear Branches Out & Bertrand at Mr. A's Celebrate 50 Years

CARLSBAD— Frozen treats purveyor The Baked Bear, which opened its flagship shopin Pacific Beach in 2013, is gearing up to grand open their second outpost this Saturday, February 7From noon until 4 p.m. at their new La Costa Town Square location (7610 Via Campanile #142), The Baked Bear will be giving away free ice cream sandwiches. BANKERS HILL— Betrand at Mr. A's, the iconic San Diego institution owned by restaurateur Bertrand Hug, is celebrating its 50th year in business with a taste of the past. All this month, chef de cuisine Stephane Voitzwinkler will be cooking up dishes from Mister A's inaugural menu that dates back to 1965, including Dover Sole, Steak Diane and Bananas Foster. And in March, the restaurant will pay tribute to the classics of the 70s, from Beef Wellington to Baked Alaska. [EaterWire]

UNIVERSITY CITY— Cafe Japengo turns 25 this month, and to usher in the anniversary, they're running a week's worth of $25 specials starting Monday, February 16. Options include two sushi rolls for $25, a three-course prix fixe for $25 or select bottles of wine or sake for $25. [EaterWire]
