URBN to Bring More Coal Fired Pizza to North County

In 2006, East Coast transplant Jon Mangini open the New Haven-inspired, industrial-style BASIC Bar/Pizza in the East Village. Thanks to its success, Mangini spun off the concept and launched URBN Coal Fired Pizza, first in Vista and then in North Park in 2010.

Last summer, he partnered with chef Alex Carballo and brewer Callaway Ryan, both from Stone Brewing Co., to take over the dormant El Cajon Brewing Company site for URBN St. Brewing Co., a brewery restaurant that makes beer for all URBN locations.

Now, the neighborhood pizzeria will touch down in Encinitas. Eater has learned that URBN Coal Fired Pizza will land at 764 S Coast Hwy 101, in the former Encinitas Pizza Company space.

Scheduled for a late Spring 2015 opening, the 1500-square-foot restaurant will have 40 to 50 seats; Mangini will design the space in a similar fashion to his other locations, The menu will around URBN's signature offerings, with a few new items planned.
