Ocean Beach Brewery Could Open On Newport By New Year's

For reals, finally.

Its been a very long time since we first shared word of a new brewpub for Ocean Beach, intended for a 4,600 square foot, multi-level building on Newport Avenue. The project, from Newport Pizza owner Mike Tajran, has been under construction in fits and starts since 2013, but we are happy to report that Ocean Beach Brewery could possibly see the light of day by the end of 2015.

With capacity for 120, OB Brewery's main tasting room on the bottom level of the brewery, lined in reclaimed wood, will have a wave-inspired bar top and 20 taps of house and guest beer. On the second level, there's more seating, a balcony, and a glass-lined cutout that peers onto the floor below. Most spectacular is the roughly 800-square-foot rooftop lounge, which sits at the highest point in Ocean Beach and offers panoramic seascape views.

Now attached to helm the five barrel brewhouse is Jim Millea, an alum of UC San Diego Extension's Brewing Certificate program and a 13-year homebrew vet who interned at Ballast Point Brewing and Benchmark Brewing before being hired on to help launch Scripps Ranch nano, O'Sullivan Bros. Brewing Company. The OB resident, who also works as a civil engineer, will be brewing up his recipes for OB Brewery's lineup, including a hoppy red, Belgian wit, cream ale, stout and an IPA. Expect a menu of pub food, from sausages to burgers and salads.
