Readers have undoubtedly noticed the flurry of activity adjacent to Westfield Horton Plaza; beyond the construction barriers is Horton Plaza Park, a newly expanded 1.9 acre public space that should be completed by March.

The 53,000-square-foot re-landscaped park will hold a new, modern amphitheater and the freshly renovated historic Irving Gill fountain, which was the first fountain in the country to come to life with water and light. Westfield will hold its own signature events in the park, but it will also be a rentable venue for everything from weddings to festivals.

In addition, three food and beverage pavilions are being built, each with walkup windows and its own trellis-covered patio seating. Julie Montgomery, the park's director of sales and events, says they will be operated by waffle sandwich specialists BruxieSloan's Ice Cream and Starbucks.
