Over the Thanksgiving holiday, several readers wrote in to tell us that Kitchen 4140 may have closed its doors, indicating that the space had been dark all week. Some hoped that it was a temporary closure, remembering that back in 2013, the eatery shuttered for a couple weeks before reopening.
It looks like the seasonally-minded restaurant, which first opened in 2010, is closed for good, at least on Morena Boulevard. But executive chef/owner Kurt Metzger has announced that he will be relaunching a different farm-to-table concept next year. The name and details are under wraps, but Metzger is reportedly considering several potential locations close to downtown San Diego. In a release, Metzger says, "It has been a great five years, and I’m lucky to have had such an amazing staff and guests, both of whom were more like family at Kitchen 4140. I’m looking forward to what the future will bring and continuing to be an active part of San Diego’s culinary community."
