Ike's Place Now Serving Super-Stuffed Sandwiches in San Diego

It launched in Hillcrest yesterday.

After a lengthy delay, Ike's Place is finally open in The Hub in Hillcrest, it's the 21st location for the popular sandwich shop, first founded in the Bay Area by Ike Shehadeh. Open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., with extended hours coming soon, the 1,100-square-foot eatery has 40 seats, mostly situated on an 850-square-foot patio.

Known for its generously-sized sandwiches made with house-baked bread, with quirky names that include Handsome Owl and We're JUST Friends, Ike's Place has transplanted most of its signature menu to Hillcrest. Exclusive to this location are the Tony Gywnn (turkey, havarti, cranberry sauce, sriracha), the Junior Seau (roast beef, turkey, bacon, swiss and secret 'Seau Sauce') and The Murph (vegan fried chicken, artichoke hearts, provolone, 'Seau Sauce'). The shop is also working on new dessert offerings and is awaiting a liquor license that will allow this to be the first Ike's to serve beer and wine.

Ike's Place will next open in Santa Barbara, but a rep for the sandwich specialists says that more San Diego outposts are a possibility, either in North County or coastal areas.
