After much speculation about the future of Alfonso's of La Jolla, with rumors of a shutter and relocation for the restaurant, we have confirmed that the Mexican eatery will indeed be leaving its current spot on Prospect Street which it has occupied for four decades.
Alfonso's will close up shop in early 2016 to prepare for a move north to Solana Beach, where it will take a space in the Beachwalk Shopping Center at 437 South Highway 101. The restaurant says that it plans to reopen there by March or April.
Regarding the fate of the La Jolla site, Urban Strategies Group's Michael Burton says, "This space represents a unique opportunity for a restaurant to secure a very rare and prime Prospect Street location for years to come. We are in active negotiations with several very exciting tenants but remain steadfast in our search for the right user and use: one that will bring additional energy to the street, engage the La Jolla community, and most importantly, be complementary to the existing lineup of outstanding restaurants."
