The Local's Remodel To Include New Brewery

Beer should be flowing Downtown by April.

Readers asked us to check in with The Local, which shuttered its downtown location in mid-November for a remodel and expansion that will include a new brewery and tasting room.

The Local's Mina Desiderio, who opened a second location in Pacific Beach last June, says that the brewery will be helmed by Robert Masterson, an award-winning local homebrewer whose recipe for a Coconut IPA won Stone Brewing Co.'s 2013 American Homebrewers Association home brewing contest, which gave him the opportunity to brew and bottle the beer in collaboration with Stone and Rip Current Brewing.

Though the name of the brewery isn't set in stone, the working title is Resident Beer Company and its 10 BBL brewhouse will share a roof with a refreshed version of The Local. Desiderio says that they've acquired three adjacent spaces and the new footprint has expanded to 10,000-square-feet, with the brewery facing the C Street side of the property. Both should be up and running by April.
